Designer Drafting Technician - Hourly

Description

  • Develop CAD models of new customer option required to support transition of VPI and current products.

  • Contribute to the design of components by performing layout studies and dimensional stack ups.

  • Work with product engineering to translate new customer option CAD models to 2-D drawings that are used to support the engineering release process.

  • Define and document the content of drafting assemblies.

  • Input data related products definition and work processing into the corporate database. These processes may include revising noun names, revision levels, graphic types, release text, and process tracking.

  • Ability to lift 35 pounds unaided.

Specific Technical Skills:

  • Experience with CAD design and construction with a focus on mechanical and electrical engine components.

  • Other subsystems related to propulsion equipment (plumbing, brackets, air handling systems, marine gears).

  • GD T experience

  • Proficient user of Pro-E/Creo, Rhino, AutoCAD

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required with Department of Labor Certification

  • OR an Associate degree in a relevant filed and at least 2 years relevant experience

  • OR a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

  • OR a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent plus 8 years of equivalent experience in a relevant field

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with 3-5 years of professional industry experience

  • Engine and/or vessel propulsion system design experience.

  • Strong analytical problem solving skills and technical knowledge of computer aided drafting.

  • Must be able to create layout and engineering specification drawings.

  • Database decision making skills.

  • Pro-actively seeks cross functional input to solve complex technical problems.

  • Good project management skills.

  • Quality improvement /capabilities:

  • Self starter and internal driven to complete complex tasks with minimal oversight

  • Able to get in/out and work in confined spaces on boats and test cells (mechanical spaces like engine rooms, and in/under helms) and be able to work in outdoor temperature extremes and elevated temperatures experienced in engine rooms.

  • Teamwork:

  • Able to succeed in a very dynamic and diverse work environment

  • Able to work in conjunction with team members/technicians both in immediate team and other cross functional teams
