This is an exciting opportunity in Fridley, Minnesota for a Technician I in our Quality group. Reporting to the Plant Quality Engineer, the Technician will provide support for all Production & Test related quality issues. In this role you will be supporting and leading proactive and reactive actions within the Assembly area and will be responsible for liaising with suppliers and third parties.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

  • Reactive Quality support for area of responsibility within production environment, reporting to Quality Engineer.

  • Liaise with supply base on component failures, providing containment activity and short term actions as required.

  • Compile reports to include findings, conclusions and document corrective actions – varied data analysis work.

  • Management of quarantined stock, using the Cummins inventory management system ‘ORACLE.’

  • Preparation of Material Non-Conformance Reports on the ‘Metric Stream’ Computer system. (Supplier Performance)

  • Lead/Assist in the collection, analysis and interpretation of data; find any abnormalities to ensure product quality.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosis of quality issues where applicable.

  • Identify and participate in improvement projects (quality, safety, customer satisfaction) for the department/team.

  • Follow correct safety procedures (i.e., tools, equipment, lifting, guards, protective equipment, etc.). Work safely and ensure the safety of others in the work area.

  • Accurate recording of disruption data, used to monitor supplier performance throughout Cummins.

  • Physical inspection of non-conforming parts using hand held measuring equipment and gauging.

  • The containment inspection of defective parts, on the shop floor, within the SQA department and the warehouse.

  • Any other general duties to assist Quality department.

  • To work with the minimum level of supervision within a team environment.

  • This position provides Quality support for the second shift (3pm - 11pm).

Compensation is based on experience. Qualifications Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • 2-5 years of experience in a Quality Technician role (preferred)

  • Engineering qualification or experience preferred

  • Minimal understanding of engines, alternators, controls, and enclosures required

  • PC literacy, use of Oracle, CQMS, Mini-tab and associated software desirable for this role

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (communicating to internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders, etc.)

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) essential

  • Attention to detail: Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task; accurately record and document technical work with basic computer programs

  • Quality-focused: Operating knowledge of ISO quality standards to ensure test and quality records meet these standards

  • Organization Skills: Manage workload to maximize productivity and efficiency; accomplish tasks in a timely manner

  • Continuous improvement: Ability to look for incremental improvements in work processes and results

  • Teamwork: Cooperates willingly and works collaboratively toward solutions that benefit all involved parties and accomplish group objectives
