This is an exciting opportunity in Mineral Points, Wisconsin for a Metrology Programmer- HOURLY.

Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.

  • Assists engineers, under moderate supervision, in applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science as related to test systems and processes.

  • Provides basic product and component testing using a range of measurement methods.

  • Utilizes established testing procedures, including automated procedures as needed.

  • Provides basic programming, training and operation of Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE).

  • Serves as a technical resource to assist lab managers, engineers and customers in the selection of appropriate test methods/technology and analyzes and interprets measurement data.

  • Assists customers in understanding/interpreting product specifications and application of measurement data.

  • Participates in inter-laboratory comparisons and measurement assurance programs.

  • Assists with uncertainty studies associated with measurement or calibration results.

  • Assists with maintaining the laboratory quality system.

  • Applies knowledge of applicable quality standards (e.g. 17025, ISO 9001, AITF 16949) and appropriate Cummins procedures.

  • Purchases necessary lab services and consumables.

  • Applies proper maintenance and calibration of the M&TE utilized with scope of work.

  • Assists with reporting of appropriate data quality metrics associated with assigned work.

  • Follows the laboratory strategy, SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer) process and score card.

  • Assists with continuous improvement activities related to data quality, lab quality system etc.

  • Write measurement programs using 3D, T Scan and other measurement technologies.

  • Debug 3D & T Scan and other measurement applications.

  • Support new product or product change preparation meetings and provide inputs to team reviews and support measurement program activities.

  • Assist with review of new product drawing GD&T layouts and provide feedback to cross functional program team members.

  • Manage 3D and T Scan and other measurement systems program administration to ensure that only latest level measurement program revisions are available for use and that old revisions are removed from point use.

  • Manage open MCRs and meet monthly processing KPI targets for efficiently closing MCRs in the database.

  • Provide support to VPI 3D, TScan and other Measurement Technologies Programmer for absences, sharing of workload during peak demand periods and other assistance as requested by Plant Quality Leader and NA Quality Leader.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.

  • Laboratory Management - Leads technical resources while managing the business aspects of a laboratory using measure to control both the technical and business aspects of the organization and assuring the requirements of the appropriate certifications and/or accreditations are met.

  • Data Quality - Identifies, understands and corrects flaws in data that supports effective information governance across operational business processes and decision making.

  • Dimensional Metrology - Applies dimensional measurement science in the development and application of measurement/inspection processes that deliver capable measurement results, supporting design validation and conformity assessment meeting regulatory, customer and product requirements.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

  • A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly rate commensurate with experience.
