Performs routine and repetitive tests, set-ups and calibrations in support of Instrumentation Engineering activities.

Performs routine and repetitive test, set-ups and calibrations.

Installs terminals, fabricates and assembles electronic systems and test cells.

Constructs and installs test cell harnesses.

Fabricates test rigs and fixtures.

Completes minor mechanical system assembly.

Installs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs gauges, transducers, heat exchangers, cooling systems, smoke meters, fuel systems measurement and oil

consumption test rigs.

Operates less complex data acquisition systems as directed.

Uses a number of general tools including but not limited to digital multimeter, soldering iron, function generator, and frequency generator.

Reads and interprets electrical wiring diagrams.

Executes written test plans and reports on test results in a specified format.

Interfaces with customers, suppliers, engineers and other functions.

Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures.

Participates in improvement projects.

Participates in self and team audits and associated corrective action

Performs other duties as required.

Data Acquisition - Prepares samples, verifies equipment calibration and performs tests according to an approved standard procedure or work instruction in a manner which ensures, and results in, data that can be trusted and delivered to the engineer or customer.

Data Reporting - Prepares documentation in a manner which clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, the data and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand the results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations.

Product Function Test System Design - Interprets test equipment specifications from test standards or lab customer requirements; selects and integrates appropriate equipment, instrumentation and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data; assesses capability of the lab equipment against the requirements and support infrastructure.

Test Setup and Configuration - Interprets test plan to determine optimal location and orientation within a test space in accordance with local safety and environmental requirements and fabricates required system with appropriate materials.

Test Article Build - Assembles test articles according to test requirements, including all necessary installation or accommodations for instrumentation, in a manner that allows the test articles to successfully undergo product functional test.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.


Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.

Train with skilled journey workers or engineers under direction of lab manager.

Diagnose malfunction systems, apparatuses and components using test equipment and hand tools. Determine cause of breakdown and correct the problem.

Utilize software to track, assign and prioritize reactive, planned, preventative and predictive maintenance work and building management system.

Follow manufacturer's recommended preventative maintenance schedules and startup procedures.

Communicate within the team and with all support teams.

Communicate technical information to suppliers to maintain, improve and resolve issues with equipment.

Communicate technical information to customers regarding status of projects.

Evaluate and specify new equipment. Support engineering for implementation of more complex upgrades and technology improvements.

Maintain parts and equipment inventory.

Create and maintain electronic documentation as necessary.

Implement new and modify existing facility system control programming (predominately Linux).

Debug mechanical, electrical and software issues.

Understand building management control system and integrate new equipment into the existing architecture.

Attend classes/training programs onsite and offsite, as required, to make appropriate progress in building basic skills.

Use common problem-solving techniques while working alone or in teams.

Participate in Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives. Maintain safe work habits and actions in all aspects of the daily task; evaluate reactive work for safety issues, plans projects so that safety is key and review preventative work for any unforeseen items that may present safety hazards.

Participate in improvement project work.

Participate in housekeeping.

Perform other duties as required.
